 PRESS BRAKE AIR-BENDING TONNAGE CHART - PDF Printable

Many people learning to operate a press brake do not understand this chart.  This bending chart gives the information you need to know to pick-out the proper v-opening die and what tonnage requirements will be needed for each material thickness.   Remember this chart is based on bending mild steel to 90 degrees ( 60,000 psi tensile).

 The easiest way to learn this chart is to pick out your material thickness and scroll across to the shaded area for that dimension.  The shades area is the recommend die opening for that material thickness.  Generally it is a 8:1 ratio of the v-opening dimension to the material thickness.  From here, we can calculate the approximate tonnage to bend 1 foot of the mild steel, the inside radius on the part and the minimum flange length to fit over the v-opening.

For example, If you do not have enough tonnage to bend the material, go up to the next v-opening size to see if the lower tonnage requirement will work on your press brake.
